Romantic Weekend in Strahan: Where to Stay, Eat & Explore

The Quarter's Journal/July 2025

There's something quietly cinematic about Strahan. The early morning mist drifting over Macquarie Harbour, the creak of timber boats on their moorings, the hush of ancient rainforest, the quiet raindrops falling from fern fronds.  It's the kind of place that gently insists you slow down - and when you do, romance tends to follow.  Each morning my favourite sound drifts in from the harbour; the haunting echo of ship horns heralding their imminent departure into the wilderness of the Gordon River, it never fails to stir something deep.   Whether you're escaping for an anniversary, a honeymoon, or simply time away together, Strahan offers a blend of wild nature and slow-living luxury that's difficult to beat.  Here's how to make the most of a romantic weekend on Tasmania's West Coast.

Where to Stay: The Quarter's, of course

We may be biased, but if you're after charm, calm, and something with soul, The Quarters is made for you. Each of our four vintage inspired flats has been carefully curated with comfort and character in mind -soft linen, antique touches, original artwork, and maybe a dram or two of whisky. After a day adventuring, retreat to your private flat, pour a glass of pinot and nestle in for an evening wind-down. Bliss.

Where to Eat; Keep it Simple, Keep it Local

  • Risby Cove Restaurant - Tucked beside the water, this is our pick for a romantic dinner. Book ahead, and if the sun is out, ask for a seat by the window. The seafood is local, the atmosphere relaxed and refined.
  • Hamers - Delicious pub cuisine in the heart of Strahan and a lovely 6 minute harbourside walk from The Quarters.
  • Westerly Seafood Caravan Fish & Chips - In the summer months pick up your favourite seafood and head to the jetty at sunset for the ultimate Strahan date night

Things to Do: Less Hustle, More Holding Hands

  • Gordon River Cruise - A must. Glide through mirrored water, ancient rainforest, and hear the stories of convict settlement on Sarah Island. Book an early cruise to leave the afternoon free to relax
  • Hogarth Falls - A short, magical walk from The Quarters to Peoples Park and on to the Fall's path. Moss, tree ferns, and the gentle hum of waterfall at the end. Perfect for hand holding, kiss stealing and photo-taking.
  • Picnic at Ocean Beach - Pack your own snacks and a rug (which we provide) and drive to Ocean Beach. The wild waves, wide sky, and isolation make if feel like the edge of the world.

Final Thought - Strahan isn't loud about its beauty. It doesn't shout. It whispers. It invites you to slow down, connect - with nature, with each other, with yourself. That's what we hoped to create wat The Quarters; a place where the rhythm is soft, the setting is honest, and the experience lingers long after you've left.

We can't wait to welcome you - Vaness and Steve
